The
goals of the Staten Island Ryan White Title II HIV Care Network (herein
called Network) are to promote the coordination, integration and needs
assessment of services for HIV-infected and affected Staten Islanders
through a consortia that is comprised of consumers and providers. Its goal
is also to: facilitate the establishment of good working relationships
among all HIV/AIDS service providers, provide meaningful involvement of
PWAs, minorities, women, youth, immigrants and the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender
communities, increase community awareness of HIV/AIDS issues, and advocate
for improved and expanded services and sound public policy.
The Network’s mission
is consistent with the requirements of the Comprehensive AIDS Resources
Emergency (CARE) Act, including the consortium Required Assurances to New York State and Bureau of Community
Programs Guidance Documents.
The Network is located at 56 Bay Street, Staten Island , New York,
10301. Community
Health Action Of Staten Island is the Lead Agency. The Network serves the
entire borough of Staten Island, which
includes the following zip codes: 10301, 10302, 10303, 10304, 10305, 10306,
10307, 10308, 10309, 10310, 10312, 10313, 10314 and 10315.

Who
We Are …
The Staten Island Ryan White Title II HIV Care
Network is the Ryan White Title II funded coordinating
council for HIV health and social services on Staten
Island. It deals with the full continuum of care and support
to individuals and families living with HIV disease.
The HIV Care Network is made up of
health care providers, community based organizations, persons living with
HIV/AIDS and a balance of minority groups, the faith based community,
government representatives and individuals from educational institutions.
The HIV Care Network is responsible
for defining the local epidemic and resources, planning and coordinating
services and advocacy, and raising public awareness about the need for
service development funds.
The HIV Care Network is responsible
for the World AIDS Day Commemoration on Staten Island.
It also organizes days of education with NYS Senate and Assembly members in
Albany as
well as with City Council members in NYC. It also advocates on a national
level.
The HIV Care Network publishes a
quarterly newsletter, WIZE WORDZ, with articles on current issues related
to the AIDS epidemic on Staten Island and
announcements of upcoming events and new programs.
The HIV Care Network sits on the
Staten Island Council of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (SICASA) and the
Staten Island Mental Health Council.

The
Staten Island Ryan White Title II
HIV Care Network is made up of several committees that meet ten times a
year. They are:

The Steering Committee is the
governing body overseeing the working of the Network. It functions like a
board of directors and is responsible for guiding the Network in meeting
its goals and objectives. There are consumer and provider members that are
elected.
The Consumer Advisory Group meets
to address issues of concern to people who live with HIV/AIDS regarding
service delivery.
The Case Management Subcommittee
meets to discuss and develop strategies to address the coordination of case
management coordination and share information regarding services.
The Housing Subcommittee meets to
discuss and strategize problems related to housing issues. The committee
shares information about housing options plans National Fair Housing Month
Commemoration and holds forums for consumers to learn independent living.
The Needs Assessment Subcommittee
oversees the production of the Service Delivery Plan for Staten
Island and the Network Resource Directory. It also looks
objectively at the gaps in service and designs strategies to fill them.
The Community Awareness Subcommittee
deals with issues education and advocacy. It is responsible for the
planning of the World AIDS Day Commemoration and educating elected
officials to the needs and concerns of people living with HIV/AIDS.
