The Expanded Syringe Access Demonstration Program (ESAP) aims to reduce the risk of HIV infection and other blood borne diseases by educating Staten Islanders, particularly substance users, diabetics, and body builders, about access to clean syringes and the safe disposal of used syringes. The program has helped to establish several new sites for safe disposal, and has recruited local area pharmacists to assist with improved access and disposal.
