Support Groups

Community Health Action can offer you the following specialized support groups:

  1. A Prevention with Positives group is held weekly for HIV+ gay men to provide an arena to discuss issues concerning relationships and prevention while being HIV positive. If you would like to attend this group, contact the LGBT Program Manager at (718) 808-1300.
  • Safe Space Program for LGBT Youth: This program provides LGBT youth 13-17 years old, with the opportunity to explore and address questions about sexual orientation and gender identity as well as other issues relative to healthy development in a welcoming and caring environment. Safe Space is a weekly, two-hour group that provides support through peer identification and socialization for the first hour, followed by a one-hour clinical support group facilitated by a Certified Social Worker. If you are interested in attending or are a provider who would like to refer an LGBT Teen to the group, contact the LGBT Program Manager at (718) 808-1300. All group participants must be screened before attending.
  • The Prison Issues Committee (PIC) is a weekly group held at Arthur Kill Correctional Facility that focuses on relationship issues and the personal safety factors that surround prison relationships. Group members are able to use this group to negotiate coming out, disclosing sexuality, and safer sexual behaviors in a prison environment. Under the LGBT Wellness Project the group has evolved into a safe and friendly forum where prisoners can bring specific gender and sexuality issues to the open.

There are many other support groups around New York City for people living with HIV and affected by HIV.

If you are interested in finding a support group to fit your needs, contact our Information and Referral Counselor at (718) 808-1300.
